Subash Chandran

Subash’s Ghatam, (a clay pot instrument) is highly esteemed in Indian music circles for his accompaniment of India's top performers including L.Subramaniam, Balamurali Krishna, M.S. Subbalakshmi, Zakir Hussain, U. Srinivas, Lalgudi Jayaraman, and others. In the west he has played with Tony Williams, Billy Cobham, Jean-Luc Ponty, Stanley Clarke, Zubin Mehta and others. His unique vocal rhythmic compositions; known as Konnakol, are considered by many to be the best in the world.

Master Percussionist and Music Guru

One of the most interesting aspects to music of this type is the unusual effect obtained by using the throat as a musical instrument. Subash Chandran, who, recognized as one of the great exponents of this craft, has contributed an overwhelming impact to some of these songs that touch on many aspects of life and the deep religious convictions of those living in this region.
