Marianne Svasek
Marianne
was born in 1959 in Den Haag, Holland and started her
study in Indian classical music with the violin, at
age 24 under Pt. Gulati in Delhi. Thereafter she moved
on to studying the sarangi with Joep Bor at the Rotterdam
Conservatorium and then Pt. Ram Narayan in Mumbai. She
also started studying Dhrupad vocal at the Rotterdam
Conservatorium with the late Ustad Zia Mohiuddi Dagar.
After his demise, she has continued learning Dhrupad
from Zia Fariduddin Dagar. For all her studies in Indian
classical music in India, she was awarded a scholarship
from the Dutch foundation, NUFFIC. Marianne has performed
in Belgium, Holland and the US. She conducts workshops
under the guidance of her Guru, Ustad Zia Fariduddin
Dagar. Presently she teaches at the Rotterdam Conservatorium,
guides the junior students of her Guruji in Europe and
conducts Dhrupad vocal workshops and private lessons
in the US.
